Holiday with Ruby
Monday, February 1st, 2010I am finally home after spending days on the crispy beach and hours in line at the Kopu bridge. Auckland, I missed you. I missed the multicultural flavour and the night life but I didn’t miss the traffic or having to wear shoes. I am too exhausted from sun and sand to make any comprehensive sense tonight so I will ramble about my food epiphanies of the last couple of weeks.
Camping in Tawharanui. Watched a meteror shower. AMAZE. Camping Ruby style didn’t mean baked beans and milk powder. My dear friend and I became “Team Camp” and with the efficient use of a chilly bin meant that gourmet sandwiches, beer and 3 course dinners were possible. Highlight : Proper smores.
Followed by long hot summer days in the coromandel. This meant fresh fruit, BBQ and cold beer on the lawn over looking the plebs on beach (It was nice to see them all go back to work). 5 Minutes drive from the bach was an orchard that I made 3 trips to. Brown paper bags full of Peaches, Plums, Avocados and Cucumbers were brought with glee.
Peach and Berry smoothes for breakfast. Grilled on the BBQ for dessert.
Homemade guacamole with lots of chilli was amazing with icy beer.
BBQ meats. Potato salad. Iced water with mint and cucumber was always chilling in the fridge to be scoffed post swim.
I am leaving AKL again. More sun to be soaked into my bones. More beaches to conquer. More fruits to devour.
I hope you are all not at your computers reading but are in fact enjoying the bounty of New Zealand summer and getting a taboo tan
Happy summer. Slip Slop Slap and Wrap. Much love. Be safe.
Ruby Zee (out of office).
