The Crew of The Whalingship

Greer Dwyer

Greer Dwyer  imparts her literal understanding of the films we need to see. Having studied Art History at the prestigious University of Auckland, the only thing more razor sharp than Greer’s reviews is her fringe.

Joel Caban

A kiwi ex-pat, Joel Caban finished his Film and media degree at the University of Technology, Sydney, and currently resides in Spain – where he is finishing his postgraduate study. Joel reviews

 media in an unbiased fashion.

Ruby Zee

Ruby’s expertise lies in the lab. Scientist by day, food expert by night. A self-proclaimed foodnetwork addict, Ruby uses her scientific analytic techniques in the kitchen. Organic quinces, knife sharpeners and ginger crunch, nothing escapes Ruby. Her philosophy revolves around local organic produce – a topic New Zealand is leading the pack on.

Isaac Carousel

Brought up in the bowels of Mount Eden, Isaac can be found lurking in the Russian literature section of the library, or perhaps enjoying an organic Pinot Gris at The Chapel in Ponsonby.  Look forward to his poignant look at Auckland’s social conventions.

P.L.R.G

Victoria is old money. Private schools, front row at Karen Walker shows, and the best tables at The French Café, Victoria epitomizes Auckland life.  She shares her latte filled days with us with her column – scandal, sex, and lots of money. Every issue she reveals something that strengthens the argument that she is indeed a poor little rich girl.

Vinny H

Vinny bends over backwards to get to the hottest spots in Auckland.  You won’t see him sitting in the same poncey bar sipping an over priced imported Merlot, nor will you see him perusing the Viaduct in the same stripy shirt as last weekend. Commited to the cause, he adorns skinny jeans and sand shoes to ensure you know where the best spots are in Auckland.

Kelly Wilkinson

Classically trained in the art of music production, Kelly is a mix-board savant. Roaming all sources for new, emerging talent, he has a nose for the best. With many a tool at his disposal, he is able to dissect and examine an album and offer a delectable aural histology for you to enjoy – without getting your hands dirty.

Ra-Ra-Blah-Blah

Like a glamorous Anne Frank, Ra-Ra-Blah-Blah delivers a fortnightly journal on the happenings of his chosen attic, Auckland City.  With a hand cupped to his ear and an eyebrow raised, his perogative is unearthing those scandals that many want buried and reporting the drama and delerium of the chattering classes. Often seen slinking and lurking everywhere, his favourite quote is “Of course you can say.  I won’t tell-promise”…….

Constance

Legally trained, and buisness saavy, Constance scowls at the inefficient, and over-priced. With a keen sense for what we as the public want and need, she scours the market for outstanding products: to which she puts her recommendation - something you can trust, ’cause she is one tough judge.

Campbell Herbert

With a heavy heart, and heavy suitcase Campbell leaves our sensational city. Relocating to Wellington, every issue he shares his trials and tribulations as an Aucklander away from home, with his coloumn ‘Tears From Wellington.’ Be ready to laugh, cry, and cringe every issue - and begin to really appreciate what living in Auckland means.

Andrew de Freitas

Andrew de Freitas boards The Whaling Ship in Auckland, where he exhibits as an artist, writes, takes pictures, and produces videos. Currently he is continuing studies in Art and Philosophy between universities in New Zealand and Canada.

Sam Owles

I am a current first year engineering student at the prestigious Auckland University with a perchance for good music. With no musical talent I prefer to listen to, and judge, those who (sometimes arguably) do.  I have a ridiculously wide-ranging musical taste so if you have any new bands that you think are pretty cool, or you’re in a new band and you think you’re pretty cool, please let me know and give me something to listen to, I love to hear new stuff.
